Description
This insulator fits between the carburettor and the engine on the Robin EX40, holding the carburettor at the right position and limiting how much engine heat reaches it. The EX40 is fitted to pressure washers, generators, water pumps and larger plate compactors, which often run for long periods in high heat. A cracked or warped insulator lets in unmetered air, causing lean running, hunting and hard starting. A damaged one can also let heat through to the carburettor, causing difficult hot restarts.

This part comes up on carburettor jobs. A cracked insulator causes the same symptoms as a faulty carburettor, so a new carburettor fitted onto a damaged insulator will still run badly. It’s low-cost and comes off at the same time as the carburettor, so it’s worth checking and replacing on every carburettor swap to avoid a comeback.
